The Chambersburg Quilt Guild was founded in 1982
Currently, we have more than 150 members with skill levels ranging from beginner to expert.
Our members come from Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia and West Virginia.
We meet on the second Saturday of the month from September to May at the Eugene C. Clark, Jr. Community Center (Rec Center) at 235 S. 3rd Street (Click Here for directions) in Chambersburg.
Our meetings include lectures by nationally-known teachers, lectures by our own talented members, trunk shows, a Christmas Tea, a Grand Feast, and social time to develop new relationships and friends.
Our bylaws require the Guild to hold four board meetings per fiscal year. All Board Members and Committee Chairs should attend. All members are welcome. Board meetings are held at the Eugene C. Clark, Jr. Community Center at 10 am before the September, December and March guild meetings. A joint board meeting is scheduled in June. Additional board meetings are scheduled as needed.
As an Incorporated organization, the Chambersburg Quilt Guild operates under a set of bylaws. Copies of the current by-laws are always available from the president on request.
The Bee Line
The Chambersburg Quilt Guild newsletter, “The Bee Line” is published before each meeting. This newsletter updates guild members on news and information about guild activities. To access newsletter, you must be a paying member. Any member may submit news or articles of interest. Items for submission should be sent to the editor by the 20th of each month for the next issue.
The guild officers comprising the board are nominated each spring by the Nominating Committee and approved by the membership in April. The current list of board positions and incumbents is published in each edition of The Bee Line and on the Web Site (Click Here). The current Vice President becomes the President the following year. The Program Committee is a 3 year commitment with the longest serving member as the Chair.
Guild Events and Activities
Daytime Quilt Bees are held the last Monday of each month, 9:30 am – 2:00 pm. Volunteers wishing to host a Bee should contact the President for scheduling. Details, including directions for the next Bee will be published in The Bee Line and posted on the website.
The Guild also provides multiple workshops during each year on many and diverse quilt construction techniques as well as tips and help with quilting processes. Upcoming workshops can be seen by clicking on the Events or Programs tab of the menu bar.
We also host two weekend quilt retreats each year, one in the fall and one in spring. These retreats are an opportunity to spend 2 to 5 days with other guild members just sewing, eating and enjoying the company of other people with similar interests.
Additionally, we plan a bus trip to the AQS Quilt Show in Lancaster, Pa. Many of our guild members participate in “Quilt Odyssey”, a show in Hershey.
The Chambersburg Quilt Guild participates in a number of service projects throughout the year, such as making baby and doll quilts, fidget/touch quilts for Alzheimer’s patients, pillow cases, sharing our raffle quilt proceeds with local organizations, and donating member-made quilts to be auctioned at charity events. Members have demonstrated quilt making at regional heritage events.
Guild Quilt Show
Every other year the Guild produces a quilt show in conjunction with ChambersFest to “Celebrate the Arts”! During our 2015 quilt show, we hosted visitors from our sister city, Gotemba, Japan. Each guest received a small quilt made especially for them by a guild member. Our next show will be in July 2017 at The Falling Springs Family Life Center in Chambersburg, Pa.
Membership provides an opportunity to enjoy all that the Chambersburg Quilt Guild has to offer. Dues are based on the regular guild year that starts September each year. Annual dues are to be paid by the May meeting for the following guild year. Single membership dues are $30.00. A family membership for all members at the same address is $35.00 and Junior memberships for ages 10-17 are $20.00.
